    What is Biogas?

    This’ the gas produced by the anaerobic digestion or fermentation of organic matter under anaerobic conditions, It can also be described as a combustible gas produced by anaerobic digestion of organic materials like animal dung, agricultural wastes and human excreta.

    During the anaerobic digestion process, methane (CH4), Carbon dioxide (CO2) and traces of hydrogen sulphide are produced as by-products

    Biogas = CH4 + CO2 + H2S + N2 + H2 etc

      Typical biogas composition:
    Methane, CH4:55-70%
    Carbon dioxide, CO2: 25-40%
    Nitrogen, N2:0-2 %
    Hydrogen Sulphide, H2S : 0-3 %
    Hydrogen, H2:0-2 %
    Oxygen, O2 : 0-2 %

    The gas is only combustible if the quality of methane in the mixture is above 50%. After these organic materials have been digested, they go out as slurry, which is a rich fertilizer for agricultural production.
